The art of asking

Don't make people pay for music, says Amanda Palmer: Let them. In a passionate talk that begins in her days as a street performer (drop a dollar in the hat for the Eight-Foot Bride!), she examines the new relationship between artist and fan.

"For most of human history, musicians, artists, they've been part of the community, connectors and openers, not untouchable stars. Celebrity is about a lot of people loving you from a distance, but the Internet and the content that we're freely able to share on it are taking us back. It's about a few people loving you up close and about those people being enough. So a lot of people are confused by the idea of no hard sticker price. They see it as an unpredictable risk, but the things I've done, the Kickstarter, the street, the doorbell, I don't see these things as risk. I see them as trust. Now, the online tools to make the exchange as easy and as instinctive as the street, they're getting there. But the perfect tools aren't going to help us if we can't face each other and give and receive fearlessly, but, more important, to ask without shame."

We could paraphrase Amanda's quote "Don't make people donate to the Pantry. Let them"

You help us help your neighbors when you donate food, non-food items, time or money.

You can leave non-perishable items in the box outside the door to the Food Pantry or drop them off during our open hours. Monetary donations can be done securely any time of day via the link on the front page of our webpage.

Thank you for helping your neighbors!

Join Healthy Futures Franklin

Join Healthy Futures Franklin to create sustainable change in our community. We believe that it takes a village (or community) to energize, inspire, and spark change. We are looking for sparkplugs (volunteers to serve on subcommittees) in Franklin who also believe that:

Sponsor A Shelf

Here at the Franklin Food Pantry, we are always looking for innovative ways to keep our shelves well-stocked for our neighbors who are facing hard times. The Franklin Food Pantry currently serves more than 580 households primarily in Franklin, distributing more than 150,000 pounds of food and provisions annually.

Clients receive monthly staples; weekly produce, bread, and dairy; and special seasonal items of holiday meal packages and school supplies. Community outreach includes assistance with application for other resources (fuel or SNAP), food delivered to the local senior center, nutritional education, and hunger awareness.

The need for services is rapidly increasing. Linda Sottile, Director of Operations, reports that in the last year the number of clients has increased by 40% and the number of pounds of provisions distributed has increased by 30%.

As you know, all households inevitably find themselves short on those everyday items that we all use, such as toilet paper, sugar, shampoo, jelly and coffee. The Food Pantry is no different. It is for those types of items that we find we have great demand all the time.

With this in mind, we have developed our Sponsor A Shelf initiative, a new way for the community  to get involved. As part of this program, businesses and civic organizations are asked to commit to sponsoring a shelf at the Pantry for a particular item. Sponsors can commit for 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, etc. A sign will be prominently displayed on the shelf for the duration of your sponsorship so our clients will recognize who our sponsors are. The name of your business/organization will also be displayed on our web page as a partner to the Franklin Food Pantry.

We hope you will consider becoming a partner to the Franklin Food Pantry. If you would like to participate, or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact Erin Lynch, Director of Development at 508-528-3115 or via e-mail at erin@franklinfoodpantry.org.

Your generosity will help us to continue serving our community during these difficult economic times. Thank you so much for your support!

We are Neighbors Helping Neighbors; Join Us

The Franklin Food Pantry has a few openings for some passionate folks who might enjoy serving on the Board of Directors. If you have a background in one of the following areas: Finance, Nutrition and/or Food Services, Communication and/or Marketing, we would like you to consider joining our team.

Note: Our current Board of Director desires have been updated and are located here
http://www.franklinfoodpantry.org/2014/10/franklin-is-not-immune-from-hunger-and.html

The Franklin Food Pantry is overseen by an eleven member Board of Directors. We have been fortunate to find some good folks to volunteer their time and skills to help this worthy cause. Unfortunately, due to changes in their lives, some of our directors have needed to step down. So if you have time and talent for a Board Position in one of the following three areas we would love to speak with you about these most fulfilling community service roles.

1 – Finances
If you have accounting experience, in particular a CPA with exposure to non-profits, the Board would welcome your expertise.

2 - Nutrition or Food Service
To insure we continue to distribute the healthiest food available in the most efficient and safe manner, we are seeking folks with experience in food sciences and distribution. If you have a background in dietary health, food services, procurement, and/or distribution we hope you would consider a position on our Board.

3 - Communications or Marketing
We are continually looking for creative ways to tell our story to potential clients and to increase the community awareness of the good work being done by the Food Pantry. The need to alleviate hunger continues throughout the year, not just around the winter holidays. Year round exposure is critical. If you have a PR or marketing background, please consider joining the Board and contributing to this gratifying effort.

Our Committees support the efforts of the Board to insure the work of the Food Pantry’s long range goals are achieved. Perhaps a Committee Member role is to your liking.

Charters for the four standing committees are shown below

If you don’t have a background in one of these primary areas and want to help, please sign-in on our Volunteer Register

Want more information, we would love to talk with you.
